Pat Morris describes a sudden and traumatic ceiling collapse that happened late at night while she was sitting in her lounge. She heard several cracking sounds before the entire ceiling fell on and around her, leaving her covered in plaster, insulation, and soot-like dust. Disoriented and shaken, it took her around 15 minutes to get out of the room. She explains that she had no warning the ceiling was at risk and later learned ceiling failures are more common across WA than people realise. Pat urges homeowners to have their ceilings professionally inspected at least yearly and to carefully check their insurance policies, as hers did not cover the damage — including her television — because it was classified as “wear and tear.”
